Employment Information for Wonder Valley Family Camp

If working with kids and spirited adults in a fun, active environment at one of California’s most
respected summer resident camps sounds like a great way to spend part of your summer vacation, then this page is for you.

Wonder Valley Family Camp is part of Western Camps, Inc., which also hosts several other camp
sessions throughout the year at their 75-acre facility east of Fresno, California in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills. The staff at Wonder Valley has been hosting camps since the late 1960s, and they are always on the lookout for that special type of person that can be trained to be a Camp Counselor and role model for visiting kids and adults alike. Two, four and nine week contracts are available.

For young men and women, or just creative, active people who are “young at heart”, being a Wonder Valley Camp Counselor is a very rewarding experience. You will be assigned groups of campers, who will look up to you for leadership, companionship, and view you as someone who really knows how to have a good time. From sunrise until late into the night, you will guide, teach, entertain and enlighten the lives of those who visit Wonder Valley.

Each summer, Wonder Valley screens about 2,000 applicants at several two-day workshops held at the camp in March. During this time, potential counselors will be put through team building exercises, leadership drills, and be evaluated for good judgment, confidence, and various other skills. This is a chance for those wanting to become counselors to get to know the camp management well, as they will get to know you.

Once hired to the elite group of spirit leaders, counselors will attend a seven-day training session that covers things like motivation, safety, discipline techniques, vehicle orientation, liability, cabin
orientation, homesickness, 101 Ways to Praise, building self-esteem and CPR classes. Certain
specialized counselors such as water ski/wakeboard instructors and Ropes Challenge Course personnel will complete additional training at this time.

Here is a partial list of some of the positions we are looking to fill each summer:

Water Ski/Wakeboard Director: Responsible for safety and supervision of ski program
Outcamp Director: Responsible for all trips leaving camp
Program Specialist: Supervise on-camp programs for quality and safety
Programming Assistant: Assist the director with detailed scheduling of staff and campers
Theatre Arts Director: Direct productions that include music and basic choreography
Ropes Course Specialist: Assist director with low and high element facilitation
Male and Female counselors: Live in cabin with children and teach activities during the day based on your experience and interests

Wonder Valley also hires other employees from time to time, including culinary/kitchen staff,
housekeeping and groundskeeping personnel, and office staff on an “as needed” basis. Please follow the directions below to inquire about what positions may be available. There are several methods in which to submit your resume, and once staff has reviewed your qualifications, an application will be mailed to you.
You may call Wonder Valley to inquire about employment during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday at 559-787-2551.
